Celebrating our Millie: The Legacy and Impact of Mildred Dresselhaus highlights Professor Mildred Dresselhaus’s journey: her career as a researcher and mentor, and her groundbreaking research in nanotechnology, thermoelectrics, and carbon.
Most of the content on this site came from the contributors to two memorial events held in Millie’s honor on November 6th and 7th, 2017, the first hosted by MIT and the other hosted by the Materials Research Society. We offer our thanks to the symposium contributors who made their work available here. All content was transcribed, edited, and moderated by Millie’s granddaughter, Shoshi Dresselhaus-Cooper.
The Celebrating Our Millie collection includes four categories of written work:
MIT Speeches — Edited transcripts of speeches given on November 6th at MIT. Additional photos and anecdotes have also been added, in places.
Conference Posters — Posters presented at the MIT Memorial poster session. They contain many students’ recollections of Millie and her life.
Materials Research Society Proceedings — Edited transcripts of the MRS Millie Memorial Symposium, held on November 7th. Each contains an anecdote about Millie at the top (unless otherwise noted), followed by many photos of Millie and a technical talk.
Unveiling Ceremony/Reflections — A few speeches from the Unveiling Ceremony, but mostly, this is new content. Additional reflections have been submitted by such good friends as Professor Kamimura, Professor Jean-Paul Issi, Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma, and many more.
The PubPub platform is a dynamic platform, allowing us to post new content over time. If you have an additional anecdote about Millie that you would like published, or if you would like permission to use photos on this site (or additional photos), please email Millie’s granddaughter.
